A new, convenient iButton reader called ChillPoint has been developed to address the cumbersomeness of existing solutions for reading these data-logging microchips. Built around an ESP32-C6, it connects to iButtons via a 1-Wire probe, dumps data to internal flash storage, and offers access through a WiFi-hosted web UI. This handheld device allows for single-handed scanning, with results viewable on connected smartphones, tablets, or laptops, simplifying data logging for applications like cold chain logistics. Both the hardware and software will be open-source, with an upcoming CrowdSupply campaign planned.
