The increasing use of agent systems that interact with tools and APIs has shifted the primary attack surface away from prompt manipulation and towards the actions those agents take. New research highlights four key adversarial attack categories: argument smuggling, tool-description poisoning, confused-deputy escalation, and telemetry exfiltration, all of which exploit vulnerabilities in tool call processes. To address this, a new in-process security gateway, Maxion-mcp, has been developed to screen tool calls, offering a zero-network-hop solution that avoids performance bottlenecks and maintains data containment.
